Turmeric + Soap=Indian Sandalwood Soap

Indian Sandalwood Handmade Natural Soap
This Amazing Soap is made with Healthy, Natural Ingredients
blended with extra virgin olive oil, Coconut oil, raw shea butter, activated charcoal and Turmeric for a yummy spicy, sweet, detoxifying scented  bar. True to life sandalwood scent is  woody sweet with a bit of musk underneath. Absolutely a perfect sandalwood Soap!

So Why Turmeric?
Turmeric is a popular ancient spice that is used as a flavoring and coloring agent in food items and as a medicinal herb for treating several disorders
Turmeric has been used in Asian cuisine and medicine for centuries to treat various conditions.

Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent. Its anti-inflammatory properties help to reduce redness from blemishes and rosacea, and the antibacterial properties disinfect the skin and combat acne. It also reduces the appearance of dark circles.

It's known for its amazing ability to reduce acne and scarring.

People with oily skin or acne scars who use turmeric on a regular basis can expect a noticeable improvement in the quality of their skin.

Turmeric is an antioxidant that fends off free radicals that cause premature aging, and it can also help to correct an uneven skin tone. Many people who use turmeric skin treatments stop using foundation altogether.
Sounds pretty amazing huh?

There are No preservatives or Fillers in our Soaps.

I definitely had my Soapie MOJO going on when I started this soap. My first thought was, how will I design this soap. I knew exactly the ingredients I was going to use but I wasn't quite sure how to design the soap?  I'm still new to all the different soap techniques so I jumped right in with splashes and swirls of black (activated charcoal) white, Yellow (Turmeric) and a Tan-ish/pink colors...I really had a lot of fun with this soap. The process went along very smoothly and that's great because anything can happen when your making soap. Believe me! I have had some real soap FLOPS! I am happy to say that That this was a fun soap to make and it came out better than I expected  (pat on the back)

The Soapie Frolic's Blackberry Sage Soap

Today was all about Blackberry Sage soap!
I absolutely Love the way This Soap smells, This was my first time making this soap and I guess you can say that I didn't Plan this one out the same way I would the others. I guess its part of the learning curve. I thought about adding some fresh sage to the Top of this soap but it was already to late. I would have preferred the color of the soap to be darker however I'm hoping the next 4-6 weeks of curing time will cause the soap to become slightly darker. I'm happy with the Dead Sea Salt on top but will definitely add Dried Sage or Sage infused oils on the next Batch.

I love the smell of this fragrance oil- This will definitely be a keeper! Let me know what you think!

Oil cleansing? REALLY...

Oil Cleansing?

I was recently doing some reading about facial cleansing. As some of you may know I'm in the trial phase of a new facial cleanser. So, while I love to read and learn about all kinds of new things I was very interested in a blog related to Facial cleansing, truths and myths! I was also intrigued by learning about something called Oil cleansing Method, say WHAT? oil on your face? NO WAY!

I think we have many issues with mainstream skin care products, two reasons stand out the most.  These products strip the natural oil out of our skin, leaving our largest organ trying to repair itself by replacing the oils stripped away. This leaves our skin tight and dry followed by a major oil slick. Each time we strip the oil away, our skin over-compensates for the lack of moisture by creating more oil. On top of the drying effects, these products are highly-scented. Fragrance is one of the top skin irritants and strangely enough, even the so-called "unscented" products usually contain fragrance. See for yourself and check the labels. Dry, irritated skin replaced by oily skin, inflamed and trapping debris?

When cleansing and moisturizing your skin, it is imperative that you keep in mind that oil dissolves oil. Your skin naturally lubricates itself with oil. Many people have this belief that if you add anything oily to your skin that it will clog your pores and make you breakout?

Do not be afraid of applying oil to your face. Oil, alone, will not bring you blemishes. Pimples, cysts, zits, blackheads, whiteheads...these are a result of several different factors including hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells and the buildup of these factors. Your skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. This oil is needed for the benefit of your skin, allowing your largest organ to function properly. It is naturally occurring. Properly functioning skin is beautiful, clear, and glowing.
We all want healthy skin!

Sometimes the reason you have oily skin isn’t because your body is naturally trying to turn itself into an oil slick…it’s because you scrub, cleanse, or strip away your natural oils so much that your skin has gone into overdrive to try and fix the damage.  It can take time for your skin to balance out again, but a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer can be a huge help in making your skin less oily.

When cleansing your face with water, keep in mind that hot water is a bad thing and will remove the natural protective oils and other naturally occurring protective barriers in your skin.  Believe it or not, a little oil on your skin is a good thing – even a healthy thing!   Hot water also can cause broken capillaries, especially when combined with harsh scrubbing. Try to wash your face with cool water.

The oil cleansing Method can work with all skin types as well as many types of acne.

Start with dry skin – oil and water don’t mix, so rinsing your face first can interfere with how well the oils work.  In addition, start simple.  Use one type of carrier oil, plain, for at least a week before adding additional carrier oils or essential oils for their benefits.

For Acne prone skin use these Carrier oils:

  • Argan oil
  • Rosehip seed oil
  • Almond oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Evening Primrose oil
For Non-acne prone:

  • Soybean oil
  • Avocado oil
  • coconut oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Apricot Oil
  • Olive oil
  • Castor oil

After you’ve tested the primary carrier oil to be sure your skin responds well to it, you can add a small amount of other essential oils for their benefits as well.  For the acne prone, you can consider adding tea tree oil in a small amount (5 – 10% dilution) to help fight the acne causing bacteria.  Other beneficial oils to include in your cleansing mix are  Cedar wood, Lavender, Cypress, Frankincense spearmint.

Gently Massage your face in small, circular motions, being sure to be gentle and let your fingertips glide over your skin.  Don’t massage for too long, you’ll have to experiment to see what your skin does best with, but start with at least 30 seconds, and try not to massage for longer than a couple minutes. Next, using a clean washcloth with cool water, wipe away the oil. Not Necessary to use Moisturizer if you want. Its like a all-in-one product! TA-DAH!

Be Gentle to your skin, Friends! Your skin shouldn't feel tight or dry. It should be healthy, nourished and Soft.

The Soapie Frolic and Grapeseed oil....

Grapeseed oil and The Soapie Frolic

Grapeseed oil is just one of the ingredients we use in our products.
Grapeseed oil is extracted from the seeds of grapes.
Due to their nutritional and medicinal properties grapes, their seeds, and leaves have been used in many home remedies for centuries. Grape Seed Oil is a great source of polyphenols - flavonoids, Essential Fatty Acid - linoleic acid, vitamin E, and oligomeric proanthocyanidin.
This oil is beneficial for people who have sensitive skin. Grapeseed oil rapidly absorbs into your skin making it a great massage oil, balm, face and body moisturizers, as well as sunblock's and sunburn ointments.

Even many hair care products contain this oil. You can use grape seed oil for hair to promote hair growth, and make it smooth and soft. Due to its antioxidant properties, grape seed oil can delay skin aging by minimizing the damage caused by free radicals.

It has astringent properties and therefore, can tighten the skin. The linoleic acid found in grape seed oil can be very beneficial in skin conditions like, acne, dermatitis and eczema. Linoleic acid can soothe and nourish the skin, and help it to repair. Vitamin E on the other hand, keeps the skin firm and smooth. Grape seed oil is easily absorbed by the body, and it can be used for reducing age spots, sun burn, wrinkles and stretch marks as well.

Sounds Amazing, huh? I can't tell you enough how quickly grapeseed oil does absorb into the skin and its a HEALTHY, NATURAL oil! I have been extremely happy using it in my homemade soaps. I have 3 products that are going through test phases that contain grapeseed oil and I'm super excited! I'm hoping these products will be ready in time for Christmas!

Halloween and the Soapie Fall Collection 2016

I was Recently back in the Soapie Kitchen whipping up another soap for the Fall 2016 Collection.
One of the many reminders of Fall/Halloween is Candy corn. I'm not a fan of this candy however it is one of my memories of Fall and the Halloween holiday.
If you look around at the many decorations for Fall/Halloween there is always something with candy corn in it or part of it. So, I thought this year I would make a Festive Candy corn Soap.

I remember as a kid dressing up for Halloween and going to school and having fun games, a parade and a fun party! All pure Fun! I remember going to the Halloween Family fun night with a spooky haunted house through the all the classrooms and library, costume contest, bozo bucket, tons of games and food provided by the PTA moms! We would trick or Treat for many hours with our pillow cases holding all our yummy candy, even the gross candy that the neighborhood cat lady gave us or the pennies and Nickels we were given. We never worried about being harmed or poisoned. Our parents didn't forbid us or scare us with Halloween being wicked or unholy. It was just about being a kid having fun with friends, siblings, parents, neighborhood kids and being silly with our costumes!
Halloween has to be one of my all time favorite holidays because its the one time of the year that you can get dressed up and look silly, along with everyone else and have fun! Oh and lets not forget about the candy and yummy rice krispy treats Mom makes!

My first Soap in the Fall collection is Harvest Hay ride- Its made with Olive oil, shea butter, Jojoba oil  and coconut oil topped of with Calendula. Once I seen the final un-molding of the soap It reminded me so much of Hay and the colors mimicked Fall colors.

Next Fall Soap Made

The 2nd soap in the Fall collection is Green Apple Explosion! Apples are all about Fall and I love green apples such as the
golden Supreme, golden delicious, and blondee's we pick at our local apple orchard every year. These  apples are  a little sour and a little sweet! The best of both worlds! Great for baking apple pie or apple Crisp! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I do love the granny smith apple that I can buy at my local grocery store. Its the best for dipping into my homemade caramel sauce. YUMMY! but if I had to choose I would rather pick my own apples! So my inspiration for my green apple explosion soap came from the love of green apples and apple picking in the Fall with my family. Our family tradition is apple picking in the Fall and I hope this will carry on. My grand-daughter loves picking apples and seeing all the pumpkins in the pumpkin patch! My second grand daughter will be born right after thanksgiving this year and I know she will love apples and picking them when she gets  a little older.

This Coming week I will be making my last Fall soap in this Collection but there will be More soaps like our Halloween collection and our X-mas and winter collection!  Stay tuned for Upcoming New products! I have some very cool Halloween bath treats coming soon!

Enjoy your Sunday, friends!
